The performance cruiser class with a hull length of around ten metres is getting a prominent addition. The new XP-33 will be launched at the end of this year

As part of the revision of its performance programme, X-Yachts recently presented two large boats, the XP-44 (YACHT test 11/2011) and the XP-38 (23/2011). Now the enterprising Danes at X-Yachts in Haderslev are apparently getting involved in the small sector again. The new XP-33 will be just 9.99 metres long and 3.21 metres wide.

At the beginning of the 1990s, X-Yachts introduced the X-99, a boat with a hull length of just under ten metres. The new XP-33 now brings back memories of the legendary one-size-fits-all class, which is still sailed in strong fields today. The conceptual deviation of the new boat in direct comparison with her larger sisters is also interesting. The new small boat in the X-Yachts performance programme is surprisingly equipped with chines (chine edges) and a retractable bow trunk for the gennaker. This makes the XP-33 a clear IRC boat. As the shipyard confirmed on request, the X-34 as a sporty tourer and the X-35 One Design as a racer will remain available in the X-Yachts programme.

The cast iron T-keel is offered in two different draught variants, with a standard draught of 1.90 metres and an optional draught of 2.15 metres. The boat is built as a GRP sandwich construction using the weight-saving infusion process and is expected to weigh 4.4 tonnes when ready to sail, with a ballast content of just under 40 percent. The cockpit only has two short dents and remains open aft - a clearly sporty layout. And there is only a tiller steering, no option for a wheel. Special feature: the tiller is mounted right at the stern of the boat. The rudder shaft, which is located further forward, is controlled via a mechanism with sub-rods. This leaves more space in the cockpit for efficient, regatta-orientated crew handling.

The mast is made of aluminium (carbon option) and is already fitted with a rod. This is a good shipyard standard at X-Yachts. In addition, there is the usual extensive and high-quality basic equipment. The interior of the boat will be relatively simple. Here, too, there is a strong focus on a sporty, regatta-oriented orientation. Nevertheless, nothing should be missing below deck for a short holiday cruise with the family. A total of four people can sleep comfortably on two berths aft and a double berth forward. There is also a small galley, a usable navigation system and a wet room in the open foredeck.

The new XP-33 is due to sail for the first time towards the end of this year. For the market launch of the XP-33, the shipyard has announced a comparatively attractive price of 121,260 euros (incl. VAT, without sails).
